Apprentice: a person who is learning a trade from a skilled employer, having agreed to work for a fixed period at low wages.  See Oxford dictionaries.

Apprenticeship was the way used to pass the skills of a particulary job to a new generation. The system of apprenticeship was first developed during Middle ages and, at the beginning, it was controlled by crafts guilds and  local governments. An artinsan used to have some apprentices to work with. A master craftsmen had the right to employ a young boy, which can learn the craft and receive only food and shelter for the lenght of his apprenticeship.
